The creation of the dog park was the result of an Eagle Scout project. Work started during the summer of 2007 by organizing a local scout troop and community volunteers to clean the tons of scrap metal from the riverbank. This was followed by community fundraising to raise the $12,000 needed to fence the park. Work was coordinated closely with the Polson Parks Department.

The second Eagle project was completed during the summer of 2008. Funds were raised and permissions gained to construct the dock along the lake shore. Dock construction companies donated materials and labor.

The information kiosk was constructed by another Eagle Scout in the spring of 2009. He gained permission from Polson City Council and worked with donated materials from local lumber yards to create the sign.

Travis Dolphin Dog Park was opened by the Governor of Montana, Brian Schweitzer and his dog Jag on May 30th 2008.

The park is named after Travis Dolphin, a city water department employee who passed away at a young age.

Scouts from Troop 1947 continue to improve this wonderful facility with ongoing maintenance provided by the City of Polson Parks Department.

There is a Multicache located at this park GC1Z1M6 "Eagle Scout Multi Cache".
