The old Parish Church was 'razed to the ground' by the 1755 earthquake and the rebuilding of the new church was begun in 1782. Not dedicated until 1800 it has as its patron saint The Imaculate Conception.
The bell tower dates from 1869, is 28m high and contains a peal of eight bells tuned in F major. The bells are reached by a spiral staircase with 72 steps. As can be seen from the photos only three of the bells are hung in typical Portugese fashion, the rest are 'hidden' within the fabric of the tower. The tower and the church were restored in 1993.
