Lappeenrannan Simolan asemaa pommitettiin rajusti Jatkosodan lopussa 19.6. - 20.6. 1944. Aseman seudulle tuli kolme pommiaaltoa puolen vuorokauden välein, ja jokaisessa pommiaallossa oli mukana lähes sata venäläiskonetta. Kohteen vesitornissa on näkyvissä pommien ja luotien tekemiä jälkiä vieläkin.
