Though most of this memorial is about things Alaska, the city's flag and pole, erected in 2003, were dedicated to those who lost their lives in the 9-11 attacks in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C.

Memories eddy like lagoon mists
Lost for the historical minded visit
Most things, Alaska, but Seward's flag waves
In memory of those in 9/11 graves.
Ostensibly, this is the Benny Benson Memorial Park, commemorating the (then) 13-year-old designer of the Alaska State Flag. However, as part of its 2003 Centennial facelift, Seward "added to the park ...by removing the bent, single pole which formerly displayed both the US and the Alaska flag. Now three poles fly the US, Alaska and a new City of Seward flag. Though this project would not have been funded without the Centennial celebration and budget, the City's flag and pole [are] dedicated to those who lost their lives in the 9-11 attacks in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C."

A small remembrance, but they do add up, don't they?
