Tonkin is the first little place east of Yorkton. There is a long since abandoned rail line running through the village and past the old Pool elevator. 50 years ago, the elevator would have been a busy place, especially when there was a quota. Quotas of grain to be hauled in were released by the Canadian Wheat Board, and under normal circumstances, farmers would haul their grain in as soon as possible. At times, there would be trucks lined up waiting to unload. One of a very few older wooden elevators left in Saskatchewan, this one is being left to the weather. Time will eventually bring it down, if fire doesn't do it first. According to a list found on the www, the elevator was built in 1928. Sad to see it rotting away.
