The brick monumental wall and flag pole stand in front of a majestic view of Mt Taranaki. Across the wall, the silver letters read "Lest We Forget."
On Anzac Day every burial plaque is decorated with a red poppy and the wall is festooned with Rosemary branches and red poppies. The red or Flanders poppy has been linked with battlefield deaths since the time of the Great War (1914–18). In New Zealand the poppy has become a symbol of war remembrance and is most often worn around Anzac Day.
In summer the lines of Servicemens memorial plaques lie amidst a sea of pale blue flowers when the agapanthas flowers are in bloom, a reminder of the country they served, New Zealand, island jewels in the blue Pacific Ocean.
