Along the road with 21 switchbacks that climbs from Bourge d'Oisans to the ski town of Huez is an chapel dating back to the 11th century. On the south side is a fine sundial, originally painted in the 17th century. This was skillfully restored by Atelier Tournesol (Sunflower Workshop)in 2000. Their trademark is on an adjacent window frame.
Near the sundial is an information plaque giving the history of the chapel, the sundial and a table for correcting clock time.
The motto is "Si cette heure n'est pas celle ta mort, cell qui suit peut etre terminera ton sort" (If this time is not that of your death, the following may be your fatal end.)
Sundial Type: Vertical - Wall mounted dial plate
