Only 66 cm wide medieval lane through the stone fortification and the narrowst street in the Czechia, called Katova ulicka ("The Headsman's Lane"), belongs to the major touristic attractions in Royal Town of Kadan.
The Headsman's Lane, connecting the Old Town of Kadan with the Hospital suburb, was built with so-called Headsman Gate ar the same time at the beginning of the 14th century as a part of the first line of the city walls and remembers a number of important personalities who visited the Royal Town Kadan during past centuries (kings and emperors: Wenceslas II., Charles IV., Ferdinand I., and Joseph II.). It used to serve as a sewer of superfluous water from ponds and fountains in the main square and by means of this lane the water used to be drained away into the Bystrický stream. The lane also was used during protection of Kadan as a quick connection of the town's centre with the fortification gate. According to the tales a blasphemous nun was alive walled in the Lane who always haunts at midnight with last headsman of Kadan Ignác Kayl (he lived in the nearby situated Headsman House; N°190).
Length of the Headsman's Lane is 51 m, width in the narrowest part is 66.1 cm. It is registrated as a part of the street Sokolovská by the agency "Dobrý den" in Pelhrimov as the narrowest street in the Czech Republic.
