The parish of Our Lady of Santa Ana, the primitive Christian center of the city, go back to the Mission that mentions the Gonzalo Fernandez of Oviedo in the third decade of Century XVI. It has survived over 100 years of earthquakes, hurricanes, and even wars. It is a Romanesque style Colonial church. It is currently part of the Diocese of Leon but is awaiting announcement that it will become the seat of a new diocese. Once that occurs, the church will be elevated to a cathedral.
