DURING WORLD WAR 2 THE MISSOURI VALLEY BRIDGE AND IRON COMPANY BUILT ON THIS SITE 167LST LANDING SHIP TANKS,4 APB SELF~PROPELLED BARRACKS SHIPS, 17 BARGES AND 13 SELF~PROPELLED FREIGHT AND AMMUNITION SHIPS APPROXIMATELY 16,000 PEOPLE WERE EMPLOYED IN THE OPERATION DURING THAT WAR THESE EVANSVILLE~BUILT VESSELS SAW ACTION IN ALL PARTS OF THE WORLD
