The only surviving station of this type in Australia, it still houses the original self righting, self draining lifeboat, believed to be oldest remaining example of this type in the world.

The life boat was built in 1856 at Williamstown.
The lifeboat house was built in 1861 and relocated to the current site in 1873. The boat is kept on a trolley that rolls down rails from the hose to the river to enable very quick launches in the event of an emergency.
