The Grimsby Neutral cemetery provides a unique opportunity to understand Neutral burial practices: it was an almost undisturbed site dug in the late 1970s under difficult salvage conditions but with efforts at archaeological precision (W.Kenyon, 1982; Jackes, 1988). Many other Neutral sites have been unsystematically ravaged by "pot-hunters" since the 1820s.
