In Boston, within the lobby in Ell Hall of the Northeastern University Campus, stands (or sits) the statue of a husky, which is the mascot for Northeastern University. This bronze statue is about life-sized and stands on a squarish block.

NU adopted the husky as its mascot in 1927, and the first live husky arrived on March 4 of that year. "King" Husky arrived at Boston's North Station, traveling by train from Alaska, and was paraded to the campus in front over one thousand students. King I was the mascot for fourteen years before he died. He was succeeded by several other "Kings" until 1958, when a statue was commissioned instead of continuing with live huskies.

This statue was completed in 1962 by Anne Philbrick Hall, and it currently resides in the front lobby of Ell Hall, which is one of the buildings that overlooks the quadrangle on Huntington Avenue, near the Northeastern Station of the MBTA Green Line (E Line) Trolley. Since then, a legend has grown around this statue that the statue give good luck to undergraduates who pet the husky's nose, and good luck to graduates who pets it's ears.

Since then, several husky statues have proliferated around the campus; some of them are done in very creative ways. In 2007, the new president of the university declared a "Huskies Everywhere" campaign, which led to many statues. In addition to several life-sized creations, there are many miniature statues that have been affectionately known as "the puppies" of the campaign.

This waymark is on the original statue, which may have inspired the later statues, Have fun finding the other ones though!

There is also efforts underway to restore the use of a live husky mascot for the school again. See the link for the CS&A website for details.
