Patterson was the "Hot Bed" of aviation in the 1920's. With Jimmie Wedell and Harry Williams the Wedell - Williams Air Service was formed. Wedell and Williams had a team of engineers and mechanics who began to manufacture airplanes for both sport racing and mail delivery use. Wedell-Williams would be remembered almost exclusively for its racing exploits and aircrafts.
The museum is a GREAT place to learn of the early beginnings of aircraft racing designs and the history of Wedell-Williams. Free! There is 15 minute surround movie that is shown before you walk the museum. The museum is actually 2 museums in one building, also featuring the Louisiana Cypress Sawmill Museum. There are about 12 aircraft on display. (only 3 are originals). There are engine displays, as well as other aviation displays. There is a trophy display of alot of the trophies won by Wedell Williams racing.
A truley great place to visit.
