Guarded by two decorative lions coat of arms of Porvoo welcomes visitors to Porvoo city hall build in 1893. The motif of the coat of arms of Porvoo is the letter C, from the Latin word castrum or castellum, castle. The coats of arms of all medieval Finnish towns had a letter motif. The Porvoo coat of arms is the only one that has preserved the form of a pointed Gothic shield. Its oldest known version dates from the year 1423.
