It's open Mon-Thu 9 to 4 and Fri 9 to 1. There is also a Barn Museum and a Icehouse-Barbershop building on-site.
The school was originally built in 1898 in Chambers County TX. It's a 18 x 30 foot structure that was made of cypress wood with a wood shingle roof. After the 1915 hurricane, the present metal roof was added. The schoolhouse was used until 1936. It was moved to it's present location in 1992, through the efforts of the League City Historical Society. It was formally dedicated as the West Bay Common School Children's Museum on October 21, 1993.
