The building was built as the home of landowner José Maria Ramalho Dinis Perdigão (1830-1884), better known as 'Palácio Barahona'.
The architect, Giuseppe Luigi Cinatti, also designed the public garden in front of the Palace. This was later donated to the Council.
The widow of José Maria Ramalho Dinis Perdigão, Dª. Inácia Angélica Fernandes Ramalho, later married the lawyer/landowner
Francisco Eduardo de Barahona Fragoso Cordovil da Gama Lobo, aftr whom the Palace was named.
The building has a classic garden, part of which on top of the first floor.
It has housed a insurance company up to 2007.
