Hochwald is a small village of 1200 inhabitants ten kilometers South-East of Basel. The town hall is in a former farmer house just next to the only grocery store in the center of the village.
The village was first mentioned in 1225 and has always been a quiet farming village. The only thing that has ever brought the name Hochwald to a broader audience was a plane crash in 1973 that killed 108 people.
