The final resting place of the 2nd Prime Minister of Barbados “Tom” Adams is found at Saint Michaels Cathedral cemetery. He served as Prime Minister from September 8, 1976 to his death, March 11, 1985. He was born September 24, 1931.

Tom Adams was considered to be among the more brilliant Caribbean leaders of his time. He was educated at Magdalen College and the University of Oxford. He graduated with a Masters Degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics. He played a key role in getting U.S. troops involved in the overthrow of the leftwing government in Grenada after that country's populist Prime Minister Maurice Bishop had been overthrown and killed in a coup in 1983.

Adams helped form the Eastern Caribbean Security Alliance in 1982. In 1979, Adams sent members of the Barbados Defence Force to Union Island in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to quell a short-lived rebellion. Dean Harold Crichlow of the Anglican Church in Barbados noted that Adams believed that the Westminster style of democracy with the freedoms enjoyed by individuals within the context of the well-being of the total society.

He was elected to Parliament in 1966, the year Barbados became independent and in 1971 he became Leader of the Opposition. His family included his wife Genevieve and two sons, Douglas and Rawdon. He was the son of the Sir Grantley Adams who was an architect of the West Indian Federation.
