Kampa Island is separated from Prague Lesser Town by the artificial Vltava river canal called Certovka ("Devil´s Stream"). It's probably named after the house "At the Seven Devils" nearby. Till the 16th century, there were only water mills and gardens at the Kampa Island. It was often threatened by floods. Four water mills (and two of them with working water wheels) are still preserved there.
Mill "Hut" ("Smeltery Mill"), built in 15th century, is one of these preserved water mills with working water wheel. The wooden wheel was reconstructed in 1995 by Mr. František Mikyška from Petrovice.
