The Little Mermaid is a sculpture located on a rock in Copenhagen's Langelinie's Park. It is much smaller than most people suspect. The sculptor was Edvard Eriksen (1876-1959) and was erected in 1913. it is based on Hans Christian Anderson's tale of the same name and it has informally become the national symbol of Denmark.
The statue is not located in the City Center and many tourists come here by car or cab.
According to Wikipedia The Little Mermaid is "about a young mermaid willing to give up her life in the sea and her identity as a mermaid to gain a human soul and the love of a human prince. The tale was first published in 1837 and has been adapted to various media including musical theater and animated film." (
