The start and finish points of the Great Ocean Road are always
debatable varying start points run from Anglesea to Geelong and finish
point running from Allansford to Nelson near the South Australian
Border.
One thing is certain is that this a scenic & memorable
drive.
In 1917 the Great Ocean Road Trust was formed to provide servicemen
returned from World War One with employment & build a coast
road to enable the area to be opened up for development.
The arch waymarked here was originally built in 1939. It was later
replaced in 1973 when the road was widened. It was then burnt down
by a bushfire in 1983 & rebuilt in 1991.
The Arch is popular stop for tour coaches and I had a lot of
trouble getting a shot of the arch without tourists everywhere and
there were several bus loads there at any one time and one bus
would arrive before one one left.
