Beowulf
Dragon Slayer
The Old English poem Beowulf tells a story that take place around the mid-Migration Period, 5th-6th century A.D. The tale was most likely transcribed by monks around the 8th-11th century, making it the oldest piece of great literature written in English. Beowulf, the warrior, is most commonly known for single-handedly defeating the monster Grendel by ripping off its arms.
Much later in his life as king of Geats, Beowulf battles a dragon that is threatening his lands. He kills the dragon but later dies from the wounds he sustains. Are some accounts of dragons based on reals encounters - with dinosaurs?
The figure that stands above the inside of the bookstore door represents Beowulf.
There is an admission fee to the museum, but for the grounds, cafe, and Dragonhall Bookstore, no admission fee is required.
