The plaque reads

Joseph Warren MD
America patriot physician slain at the Battle of Bunker Hill June 17, 1775 and for whom Warren Avenue is named

John Nick Pappas Sculptor
Gift of the Wayne State University Bicentennial committee

The statue is a bronze statue, with an abstractness to it. I took the best photos I could, given our Michigan winter. I'm only going to be in the area for another two weeks, so I may not get a chance to take a snowless photo.

John Nick Pappas is a local sculptor, known for his bronze sculpture. (visit link) . I was privledged to hear him speak at a National Management Association meeting several years ago. He described the lengthy and complicated process of creating a bronze sculpture.

The Wayne State Art walk (visit link) tells us this about the sculpture:
"JOHN NICK PAPPAS b. 1934
Joseph Warren, M.D., 1976, Cast bronze
Gift of the WSU Bicentennial Commission
This moving sculpture commemorates General Joseph Warren, M.D., who served as a voluntary private soldier and chief executive in the Revolutionary War and died at Bunker Hill in 1775. John Nick Pappas received both his BFA and MA degrees from WSU. Pappas taught art at Eastern Michigan University for 40 years. In 1977 he completed The Processsion, a monumental figurative sculpture commissioned for Michigan’s Blue Cross and Blue Shield headquarters."

For more information on General Joseph Warren, M.D., please see wikipedia. (visit link) . He was a patriot.
