The house designed by Arthur Pillsbury was the childhood home Adlai E. Stevenson II, two time Democratic candidate for President served as Ambassador to the United Nations and Governor of Illinois. He was the grandson of Adlai E. Stevenson who served as Vice President of the United States. Adlai E. Stevenson II lived in this house until after his junior year in high school. In 1977 the house was given by the Stevenson family to the McLean County Historical Society which has maintained the house over the years. It has recently been placed on the market with an exterior easement to Landmarks Illinois which maintains control over the exterior of the home. The home is was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 with national significance due to association with Stevenson.
