Runes function
The most common was that it was the memory residual stones after mourned and missed, father or brother. A typical example is the stone at Hågelby farm: "Sibbe and Jorun and Tor-Gunnar and Ingegerd, the siblings were let go this stone Tjarven, his father and godmother for her husband. God help his soul. " Often erected at the property boundaries. Other stones wanted to make something special, as a bridge-building. Sometimes there were other details such as how the person died. One of Alby stones, Nolingestenen, talking about someone who died in Greece and another, the now-vanished Dog Hamra stone, talking about Huge "which was death by Ingvar". There is an obvious allusion to the famous so-called Ingvar train when he set sail with many ships against Gårdarike, about the current Russia, and few came back.
