The Randall Oak is named for James Ryder Randall, and it was here that he penned the words to the poem Maryland, My Maryland.

The huge Live Oak tree is located on Private Property. Mr. Randall taught English at the Poydras College, located in New Roads. In 1861, he wrote the 9 stanza poem, Maryland, My Maryland. It was first published in New Orleans later that year. It was not until 1939 that the poem, turned song, was adapted as the Maryland State Song.
