The Eugene Yacht Club was founded in 1940 with 25 members. In 1945 a clubhouse was built on Richardson Point and a joint lease with the Boy Scouts of America Oregon Trail Council was entered into with the Corps of Engineers establishing the home of the club. That same year the Memorial Regatta was established.

From the web site: "The now famous Memorial Day Regatta, first held in 1945 with some 23 boats participating, is now limited to 150 boats with competitors from clubs from all over the West Coast. The Harvest Regatta in September draws up to 100 boats each year.....In recent years EYC has hosted the National Championships for the Coronado 15, Daysailer, Santana 20 and Thistle classes, the Laser North Americas, as well as many District regattas. EYC has also hosted Mallory Cup eliminations, and several West Coast Championships."

In 1998 the club hosted the Adams Cup, the U.S. Women's National Championship. The club has been featured in issues of Sunset magazine and Sail Magazine.

"Seasonal and short term moorage (263 slips), and a boat ramp are available. Please call the concessionaire at 541-935-3130 for the fee schedule, moorage reservations, and more information. There is a $3 daily use fee for the entire park (that is you need a daily pass if you enter the park during hours of the ranger in the booth). There is no fee to launch at the boat ramp. There are restrooms and showers at the marina so you can stay on your boat there if you like."
