Rodney, Mississippi was founded in 1828 and named in honor of the territorial judge Thomas Rodney, who presided over the Aaron Burr hearing.

Located along the Mississippi River, Rodney was a booming town in the 1830s with a population of over 500 people. It was very well known for its county fairs and folks from all over the lower Mississippi area came to visit. There were about 20 stores, a church, a bank, and a newspaper here.
In 1843 and 1898 the town lost many of its residents to Yellow Fever. Then in the late 1860s/early 1870s the Mississippi River changed its course and moved two miles west of Rodney. Then in the 1880s the railroad moved east. The town was officially abolished in 1930 by the Governor.
Some of the original buildings are still here including a historic old church. There's also a very cool virtual cache here, GC38A9. The town is a little hard to find, so allow yourself extra time for travel!
