A large tree ring display in Smackover Arkansas. This tree ring is located just inside the front door of the museum right between the vintage gas pumps.

This tree ring is currently on display at the Natural Resources Museum in Smackover Arkansas.

Text From the Exhibit:


This champion tree was first recorded by Jesse Paulston on a timber cruise in 1947. This cross section was donated by Potlatch Corporation of Warpen Arkansas and was cut from the trunk about 6 feet above the ground by Pete and Burt Woodard. It was preserved and finished by Frank Wright of Celtic Timber Corporation with help from Sheller Drilling Company of El Dorado Arkansas.

This Southern Yellow Pine Tree was the National (World) Champion Lobacilly Pine (Pinus Tilada) from 1994 until April 2000 when it was uprooted by strong wind at an age of about 242 years. It was approximately 148 feet tall and had a diameter of at least height , 435 feet of 60 inches. It sprouted on French Soil in 1761 and was blown over in 2000 on land belonging to Potlatch Corporation in Section 1B – Township 11 South- Range 10 West, Cleveland County Arkansas in the Saline River Bottom about 9 miles directly north of Warren Arkansas,
