This rather nondescript house was the childhood home of Janet Frame. Her was a railway worker and shifted about Otago and Southland until coming to Oamaru where the family stayed put for 12 years.

Ms. Frame would wonder about the hills behind the house and through the historic buildings of Oamaru. Many of these place influenced the settings of her novels.
