Not all old sundials are restored. Some are neglected, abused and fade away. This seems to be the case for this old sundial on the back wall of an old farmhouse in the hamlet of La Rua in Vielle Ville. The dial was a simple Zarbula sundial but the image is now too effaced to see any details. The equatorial and other construction lines show through.

Some dials are old unappreciated and neglected. They deserve better treatment as part of the patrimony of the region. Dr. Raphael Blanchard made this point in his book of 1895 recording sundials in the area. "Le cadran se meurt, les cadrans solaire est mort. les communication plus facile, le luxe importé des villages et l'horogerie a bon marché lui ont porté un coup mortel.."

The building looks like the old style combined house and barn. The glass bricks and vent for a new bathroom do not add to the view of the sundial. This building is on the west side of the river with only one house farther west. Enjoy the sundials on the east side of the creek, on the church steeple and the new residence a bit to the east showing a pair of new Rémi Potey sundials. Potey also painted the dramatic image of Saint Sébastien’s martyrdom on the chapel.
Sundial Type: Vertical - Wall mounted dial plate
