The first mentionof a church on this site is 1122, the surviving part's of the present church are the chancel arch, dating from 1170-80.
The plain tub shaped Norman font, set on a square base, this faces the door,also dates from 1200. A major rebuilding took place in the early 13th C. prior to the re dedication in 1273.

The restorations in 1849 and 1859 were severe, The pupit is Jacobean made in the early 1660's and the altar and credence table are also from the same period.

The mosiac behind the Altar, depicts the Last Supper and was inspired by the Leonardo Da Vinci, was made in 1860 by Salviati, the Venetian developer of mosiac method of production.

In 1919 the last private owner of the Manor sold the manor and church lands to John Buchan [ 1875 - 1940] the famous scottish diplomat , historian, biographer, and novelist he is remembered for his Richard Hannay Novels ie The 39 Steps. he died in Canada, but his ashes are buried in the churchyard.
