The crossroads of Alserstrasse and Spitalgasse sometimes in the 1930s and today, approximately 80 years later. Left in the picture is the corner of the old General Hospital, founded by Emperor Joseph II in 1785, today the campus of the University of Vienna (see the Waymark WM7NFF). Please note the same street-name sign on the corner.
On the right is the house Alserstrasse 21. There was some insurance company between the World Wars, today we can see a candy shop in its place, but the name of still existing "Pension Zenz" on the facade remains the same over 80 years. The name Delka belongs to a shoe shop. There is a branch of Delka, today a quite big Austrian firm, directly on the crossroads, but it isn't seen in the picture.
Far away on the right is the Holy Trinity Church (see the waymark WM7NBJ), it seems to be the same, nothing has changed.
Please notice also that there is a left-hand traffic on the old photography. The Austro-Hungarian Empire drove on the left. Successor countries switched to the right separately and Austria did it in stages, beginning from the west. Vienna changed to the right-hand traffic not until 1 July 1938, after the "Anschluss".
