The court house of Liestal is located just opposite the railway station. It was built in 1853/1854 as a school. In 1919 it became a court house, but until 2005 there have always been other uses in the building as well, e.g. the official library of the canton.
Currently it is home to four differnt courts:
Kantonsgericht (state court)
Strafgericht (criminal court)
Jugendgericht (juvenile court)
Bezirksgericht (county court)
