On the on the front of the Cervières town hall (Marie) is a circular Zarbula sundial. This sundial is on the same main street by the river to the east of the other one on the customs house. The sundial was partially in 1982 by J. F. Gavoty. Effaced markings, lines, numbers lettering etc were not recreated in the restoration. The sundial is now undated and unsigned but attributed to Zarbula, based on the Zarbula style features.

Raphael Blanchard describes two Zarbula sundials in Cervières, on the customs house and the other one on the presbytery dated 1851 with the motto “Quota sit hora dum petis illa fugit”. Perhaps the old presbytery is now the Marie and this is the 1851 Zarbula dial. I don’t know as I do not have a copy of Dr. Blanchard book “L’art populaire dans le Briançonnais, Les Cadrans Solaires” written in 1895, updated in 1901 and reprinted in 1991. It is reputed to be a great archive of sundials in the Haute Alpes.
Sundial Type: Vertical - Wall mounted dial plate
