This animal memorial is on Palmerston's main street in a collection of local items including a waterwheel and a statue of a pair of miners finding gold. It can be easily missed when walking down the street as it is behind a fence in this public square. The plaque reads:

Chippie the Town Cat

1985 - 2000

Palmerston was his kingdom
The streets he did roam
But alas his life has ended
He's now resting at home.
