Just because it’s good for you doesn’t mean it’s boring. In fact, boring is the last thing you can accuse the luscious juice bar’s menu of being.

You have got to like fruit, it’s true, and you have got to be prepared to take your lunchtime sarnies on bread that has more going for it than the floppy, white, spongy stuff of the supermarkets’ ‘no frills’ ranges.

But with fresh soups such as tomato and pepper served daily as well as olives with feta cheese and carrot and pitta strips to dip into home-made hummous, you don’t even have to plump for the sandwich option.

If you do, the choices are tempting.

Honey roast ham, mustard, mixed leafs, tomato and red onion is as tasty as it is colourful. If you’re an egg mayo fan then Luscious Juice Bar’s free range mixture with mustard cress and grated carrot is piled high and really good.

But it’s the juices and smoothies that make this bijoux bar more zingy New York than tired old Bedford.

Just reading through the list of combinations – such as apple, pear and blueberry or banana, honey, a dash of orange juice and oatmeal – brings sunshine to a gloomy March day. And if you need a stronger pick-me-up try a juice booster to cleanse, detox and boost your immune system such as wheatgrass, spirulina, echinacea or ginseng.

But luscious is more than a wholesomely, holistic experience and if you want to just sit and read the paper while building up your energies for the rest of the day there’s nothing to stop you tucking into the brie, bacon and cranberry panini washed down with a sinful hot chocolate topped with cream and marshmallows.
