With 750,000 Minton tiles on the floor booking hall it expresses the importance of rail travel at the turn of 20th century. And the tiles are used on the staircases and elsewhere in the train station.
The Dunedin Train Station was the busiest in the New Zealand Railways' network at the time it opened in 1906. Today only two tourist trains leave each day during the summer.
