I found this group on a geocaching tour yesterday and I love it, it advanced immediately to my absolute favourite under the monuments and statues in Vienna. This cossak is by no means a wild warrior, he and his horse give off only peace and quite. He is not riding, he sits peacefully at a stone smoking his pipe - the horse is feeding on grass several meters away.
The statue, sponsored by the Ukrainian embassy in Vienna, is in honors to the cossack fighting in the army of the Polish King Sobieski in the battle agains the Turks who besieged Vienna in the year 1683. It is placed in the Türkanschanzpark, which were built 1888 in the area where a part of the battle took place.
