In Needham, on Forest Street, is a farm stand known as Volante Farms. This place has been around since 1917, and has both farm fields and greenhouses at this location.

To get there, from the center of Needham, travel west on Route 135 (Great Plain Avenue), then turn right at the next traffic light onto Central Avenue. Travel on Central Avenue to Forest Street and Volantes on your left.

Volantes is especially proud of their new greenhouse built in 2008 during the winter. The web site states that it is a Dutch-style greenhouse. Feature include a glass roof that is openable to the sky; energy and shade curtains; rain water recycling; drip irrigation; efficient natural gas boilers for heating; ebb and flow benches (trough irrigation); and a Wadsworth Control Panel to monitor the atmospheric conditions.

There are seven smaller greenhouses that are used in various ways throughout the year, generally for flowering plants in the spring, other flowering plants, garden items, or empty in the summer, and christmas tree items or empty in the late fall/winter.

Volantes is open most of the year, generally all days of the week from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. At the time of the visit, the farm was closed, being a time after the harvest and before Christmas trees.
