Rheinfelden is a small town of about 11'000 inhabitants in the North-West of Switzerland at the German border. It received its town charter in 1225, so it is the oldest town of Argovia. The city is across the river from Rheinfelden in Baden-Württemberg; the two cities were joined until Napoleon Bonaparte fixed the German–Swiss border on the Rhine in 1802 and are still socially and economically tied.
The town hall was built in 1531 in the medieval center of the town, after the old town hall burned down.
