EN: The old Rhine bridge connects the old town of Rheinfelden on the Swiss side with the German town of Rheinfelden. The bridge is 147 meters long and consists of two parts that meet at different angles on a small island in the river. The southern part has two, the northern one three arches. The bridge marks the end of commercial shipping on the Rhine.

Presumably the oldest post-Roman bridge between Constance and Strassburg stood here, probably built in the late 12th century. It was destroyed several times over the centuries, sometimes by ice or flood, but also three times in wars. After the fire of the wooden bridge by Blasius Balteschwiler in 1897, the current concrete bridge was built until 1912. The responsible engineer was Robert Maillart, the architects Joss & Klauser. It is the eleventh known bridge at this location. After the construction a new road bridge west of the city, the motorized traffic on the old bridge was gradually reduced from 2006 onwards. Today, the bridge is mainly for pedestrians and cyclists, taxis and buses are the only allowed motorized vehicles.
