Then & Now
The Then Picture
View
from Cannon Hill across Warrnambool Bay in 1878. The cannon in the
foreground is one of the first placed there in 1866. The absence of
sand dunes between the sea and Lake Pertobe is notable.

The Now Picture
Cannon
Hill gets it name from an artillery battery that was
originally located from the mid nineteenth century.
The cannons were installed in response to a perceived Russian invasion
threat at the time.
The battery was relocated to
Flagstaff
Hill around 1910, with the enbattlements and the original
guns remaining there.
Cannon Hill is now home to WW1 trophy & WW2 disposal guns.
