Pavilion Springs

In the late 1890s, the town of Sulphur Springs grew up around the fresh and mineral water springs. Settlers capitalized on the medicinal qualities of the mineral waters with visions of the area becoming a health resort.

The Chickasaw Indian Nation preserved the springs until 1902, when the U.S. Government purchased the land and named it Sulphur Springs Reservation. In 1906 the name changed to Platt National Park. Finally, in 1976 Platt National Park was incorporated with Arbuckle Recreation Area and renamed Chickasaw National Recreation Area in honor of the Chickasaw Nation who helped preserve these creeks and springs.
