The lion and the unicorn have long been associated with England and Wales for the former, and Scotland for the latter. Here they adorn the Garrison Building in Dunedin.

The Garrison Hall was built in 1877 and New Zealand, being a British colony at the time, used the lion and unicorn to symbolise the British crown and the authority of HRH Queen Victoria.
