Having a statue of Robert Burns in Dunedin is very appropriate. The city was founded by Scottish settlers in the 1840s and named in the Gaelic version of Edinburgh — Dunedin.

When walking around Dunedin the Scottish influence is very clear. Founded by Scottish settlers in the 1840s, this community was well funded by Scottish companies, banks, and church. Interestingly this statue of Robert Burns is a replica of the one in New York City's Central Park.
