This is a wonderful place to visit at any time of the year. Spring, for its wonderful displays of daffodils and, to my mind, it's especially good in the autumn when the maples are turning to their autumn red, with so many pathways it's difficult to use the same one twice. In between the trees you may catch sight of some of the locally produced wooden carved figures. There are landscaped steams running through the garden which feed a large lake situated in front of the house.
A Mammal and bird of prey centre has been set up in the walled garden of the house, flying displays are held daily, meerkats and wallabies are on display in outdoor enclosures. What I really like is that dogs are admitted and the garden is wheelchair accessible.
To reach this magical place head south-west out of Bedale on the B6268 Masham road. After a couple of miles at a cross roads turn left towards Ripon. This is Kings Keld Bank and the arboretum is signed on the left after a short distance. The coordinates given are for the car park by the park entrance.
Further information, opening times, admission prices and a list of events can be found on their web site.
