Located on the corner of the thriving Flinders and Swanston Streets, the Flinders Street Station is an iconic symbol of the downtown area of Melbourne, near the Yarra River area. Visitors to Melbourne will recognize the landmark station -- it is featured in advertisements and pictured in travel magazines.
The station, listed in the Victorian Heritage Register, terminates 15 tracks from the suburbs of Melbourne. The front entrance has 10 clocks, the time/schedule for the different railway lines. When a person from the community says "I'll meet you under the clocks" -- they are refering to the front entrance to the station.
Opened in 22 January 1910, the striking Victorian style building is about to celebrate its 100th year.
