This peace garden was designed in a Japanese style. The garden is in honor of Pearl Harbor survivors, the Japanese-Americans interred by the U.S. Government in World War II, and the 100th Battalion. The latter were part of the Hawaii National Guard who were of Japanese decent. The battalion earned 9486 Purple Hearts in WWII.
The garden incorporates white Virtue Pillars, grey Peace Pillars, benches, and a Japanese gate with a motor shell as a bell.
Text on Monument/Memorial Sign or Plaque: Welcome to
The Peace Garden.
Designed by
IU Kokomo students,
this place of contemplation honors three
groups who sacrificed much for peace:
Pearl Harbor survivors,
interment victims,
and the men of
the 100th Battalion.
Please honor
their sacrifices and
the concept of peace
by treating this place
with respect.
Many thanks.
